摘要

The effect of zinc, an important element in the learning and memory process, on neurotransmission in a single-cell model of transmitter release has been studied by amperometric methods. In their Communication on page 4970 ff., A. G. Ewing and co-workers show that zinc not only changes the vesicle content in PC12 cells, but also the dynamics of individual exocytosis events leading to a longer and more stable fusion process. This finding might suggest a mechanism for how zinc affects this key cellular process to alter cell-to-cell communication.
