摘要

As an important writing tool over the past 5000 years, Chinese brushes allow manipulation of ink in a controlled manner. L. Jiang, H. Liu, and co-workers demonstrate on page 4889 that controllable liquid transfer of the Chinese brush is attributable to the unique anisotropic multi-scale structures of the freshly emergent animal hairs. Drawing inspiration, a device with parallel hairs is developed that allows for direct writing functional microwires.
