摘要

A new sensor made of a sub-wavelength optical-fiber array is shown. On page 7462, Q. Gong, Y.-F. Xiao, and co-workers report that such a tiny optical device can detect and size single nanoscale particles, owing to its high sensitivity and real-time response ability. This simple and promising design may facilitate important applications, such as early-stage biomedical diagnostics, process control of semiconductor manufacturing, and explosives and environmental monitoring.
