摘要

Diatomite, known as an absorbent for liquids for over a century, is now found to be an effective absorbent for CO2 gas via combination with different metal-organic frameworks, as described by D. Zhang, J.-J. Gu, and co-workers on page 1229. This finding has the potential to reactivate millions of tons of diatomite to active CO2absorbents. It also suggests that the silica cell walls of diatoms may participate in the biological CO2concentration process that impacts global-warming trends.
