Spherical Viscoelastic Bio-Ink Particles

In article number 2109004, Li-Heng Cai and co-workers develop a 3D bioprinting technique for the digital assembly of viscoelastic spherical bio-ink particles (DASP). Unlike most existing bioprinting techniques that use 1D filaments as building blocks, the DASP uses spherical particles, which are effectively 0D voxels, to create 3D structures. Thus, the DASP enable engineering multiscale porous scaffolds composed of interconnected yet distinguishable islet-laden hydrogel particles for sustained responsive insulin release.
