摘要

X. Guo, C. Nuckolls et al. describe how reaction chemistry is an efficient means for covalently bridging the nanogaps between separated contacts for molecular devices. In each case, ever-reducing top-down device fabrication existing in the silicon-based semiconductor industry is tailored to meet the requirements of ever-expanding length scales of bottom-up assembly. The combination of directed self-assembly and programmed chemical reactions with device fabrication allows researchers to modify the electrodes and then to complete electrical circuits by chemically connecting the electrodes.
